Post War Prosperity: Little international competition led US to economic growth, and high production and consumption into the 1960s.
Trends: Baby Boom, suburbia, car culture, National Highway System, electrification, and automation.

JFK & LBJ: A great society and war on poverty.
Doubts: Fear of Reds, in gov’t --> black lists, McCarthyism, spies for USSR. Soviet Sputnik led to space race --> landed on moon 1969.
Divisions: Segregation and de facto segregation led blacks and others to fight for Civil Rights against Jim Crow laws.
